How Credits Work

Instead of tracking raw tokens, Proseweave uses a simple credit system so you always know exactly how much budget you have left. One credit is roughly equivalent to $0.01 of API cost.

Credit Costs

Different models and operations cost different amounts of credits:

OperationCredit Cost
Haiku (fast, lightweight)2 credits
Sonnet (balanced)7 credits
Opus (most capable)35 credits
Cover generation12 credits

Every AI operation — generating a scene, rewriting prose, brainstorming, running a consistency check — deducts credits based on the model used.

Daily Safety Limit

All plans include a 100 calls/day safety limit to prevent accidental overuse. This counts total AI operations regardless of model.

Confirmation Dialogs

When an operation costs 5 or more credits and your remaining balance is below a threshold, Proseweave shows a brief confirmation dialog before proceeding:

PlanConfirmation threshold
Free50% remaining
Starter20% remaining
Pro20% remaining
Max15% remaining

Haiku operations (2 credits) never trigger a confirmation dialog since they're below the 5-credit minimum.

You can check "Don't ask again this session" to skip the confirmation for the rest of your browser session.

Credit Enforcement

When your credits are exhausted:

  • You'll see a clear message showing your usage and remaining balance
  • AI features are temporarily unavailable
  • You can still manually edit, read, and export your work

Credits reset automatically at the start of each billing cycle. Upgrading your plan also resets credits immediately.

FAQ

How are credits deducted?

Each AI operation deducts a fixed number of credits based on the model used — 2 for Haiku, 7 for Sonnet, 35 for Opus, and 12 for cover generation. The deduction happens when the operation starts.

What happens when I run out of credits?

You can still access your projects, read and manually edit your work, and export files. AI-powered features will be unavailable until your credits refresh at the start of your next billing cycle or you upgrade your plan.

Do unused credits roll over?

No. All credits reset at the start of each billing cycle.

Can I switch plans?

You can upgrade or downgrade at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately and reset your credits. Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
