Quick Start
Step 1 — Create a Project
- Open Proseweave and log in to your account.
- Click New Project on the Dashboard.
- Fill in:
- Title — e.g., "The Lighthouse Letters"
- Genre — e.g., "Literary Fiction"
- Premise — A brief summary of your story (1–3 sentences). This is the first piece of context the AI receives.
- Target Word Count — e.g., 80,000
- Click Create Project.
tip
If you just want to explore, click Load Sample Project instead. It creates a fully populated demo project so you can see every feature in action.
Step 2 — Build Your Outline
You'll land on the Outline view. Start by adding your story structure:
- Click + Add Act and name your first act (e.g., "Act One — The Discovery").
- Inside the act, click + Add Chapter and name a chapter.
- Inside the chapter, click + Add Scene and write a beat — a short description of what happens (e.g., "Elena finds a locked journal in the lighthouse attic. She recognizes her mother's handwriting on the cover.").
Add at least one scene with a beat — you'll use it in Step 4.
Step 3 — Add a Character
- Click Story Bible in the left sidebar (or press
⌘2). - Open the Characters tab and click + Add Character.
- Fill in a name, role (Protagonist), and a short personality description.
- Click Save.
The character is now included in every AI request for this project.
Step 4 — Write Your First Scene
- Click Manuscript in the left sidebar (or press
⌘3). - Find the scene you created in Step 2 — the beat appears as a header.
- Click inside the editor and type a few sentences to get started, or leave it empty.
- Press
⌘Enter(or click Continue Writing in the toolbar).
The AI reads your scene beat, Story Bible context, and any existing prose, then streams a continuation directly into the editor.
tip
The first generation includes the AI's reading of your character and setting context. The more you fill in the Story Bible, the more consistent the output becomes.
Step 5 — Rewrite a Selection
- Highlight a sentence or paragraph in the editor.
- Click Rewrite Selection in the AI toolbar.
- Type an instruction, e.g., "Make this more atmospheric and slow the pace."
- Watch the AI rewrite only the selected text.
Step 6 — Export Your Draft
- Click the Export button in the top toolbar.
- Choose Markdown for a quick check.
- Click Export and your manuscript downloads as a
.mdfile.
