Worldbuilding

The Worldbuilding tab is where you capture the rules, systems, organizations, and lore that define your fictional world. Every worldbuilding entry is included in AI context, so the AI respects your world's constraints when generating prose.

Creating a Worldbuilding Entry

Open the Worldbuilding tab and click + Add Worldbuilding. Fill in:

FieldNotes
NameThe name of the faction, system, artifact, or concept
CategoryFaction, Magic System, Technology, Religion, Organization, Custom, etc.
DescriptionWhat it is, how it works, its history and significance

Categories

Choose the category that best describes your entry:

  • Faction — political groups, guilds, secret societies, military orders
  • Magic System — rules, costs, limitations, and mechanics of supernatural abilities
  • Technology — inventions, infrastructure, and tools unique to your world
  • Religion — belief systems, deities, rituals, and religious organizations
  • Organization — institutions, companies, schools, or governing bodies
  • Custom — anything that doesn't fit the above categories
tip

The most useful worldbuilding entries describe constraints and limitations, not just capabilities. "Mages can only cast spells while touching stone" gives the AI far more to work with than "Mages can cast spells."

Example Entry

Name: The Thornwatch
Category: Faction
Description: A covert network of informants embedded in every major
city. Operates through dead drops and coded messages left in
public libraries. Members never meet in person. Founded after
the Silence Coup to prevent any single ruler from consolidating
too much power. Funded anonymously through a chain of
merchant fronts. Known to the public only as a rumor.

AI Worldbuilding Generation

Click Generate with AI to have the AI create a worldbuilding entry from a short description. For example:

"A secret order of assassins who maintain the balance of power between rival kingdoms"

The AI will generate a structured entry with name, category, and detailed description. Review and edit the result before saving.

Assigning Worldbuilding to Scenes

In the Outline view, click a scene to edit it and use the Worldbuilding multi-select to tag which worldbuilding entries are relevant to that scene. Only the selected entries are included in AI context for that scene, keeping generation focused and accurate.

How Worldbuilding Context Works

When you trigger any AI operation, the context builder formats your worldbuilding entries as:

WORLDBUILDING:
- The Thornwatch [Faction]: A covert network of informants embedded
in every major city. Operates through dead drops and coded messages...

Well-defined worldbuilding entries help the AI:

  • Respect the rules and constraints of your world
  • Reference factions, systems, and organizations consistently
  • Avoid generating content that contradicts established world rules
  • Create richer scenes by drawing on documented world details
